Cherry Blossoms in Water Color |

For these images I was very inspired by their bright pink color and the cheery green tree behind them. These were taken in a neighborhood near my home. I was trying to convey the feeling of the bright clarity that I feel when Spring comes after the dreary Winter. These were some of my favorites because of the way I was able to focus the flowers and blur the tree in the background.

Apple Blossoms with Water Color |

I chose to take pictures of an apple blossom tree because I think the similarities and differences between cherry and apple blossom trees is endlessly fascinating. This tree is in the backyard of one of my very good friends and she allowed me to come and take pictures of it, social distancing of course. These images I like because the water color effect was very effective but is not as focused as I might have liked. I was also struck by how the light filters through the branches and wanted it to feel like you could practically feel the glare as the viewer.

Field of Tulips in Water Color |
Field of Tulips (Natural) |
While on a bike ride I stumbled upon a neighborhood that had rows and rows of all colors of tulips but I was particularly struck by the orange streaks in the yellow tulips. I had come to find out that this field of tulips in planted by the neighborhood every year, this being their 11th anniversary of the bright tradition. I am not as proud of these pictures because I think that they look a bit messy but the story behind them caused me to put them into my website. I wanted to try to capture the way that the tulips were in rows and how show the feeling of how loved they were by everyone who was so meticulously planting them.

Thought these are similar to the last ones, I wanted them to have their own spot to showcase a different part of the tulip. While sitting in the field I thought about the center of flowers and how they have their own beauty and story. How they take their time in opening up. The water color did not take very well to these but I was proud of the one on the right and the lighting on it.

Red Tulip (Water Color) |

As you can probably tell by now, I took a great interest in flowers for this project. For as long as I can remember I was always slightly amazed by the pigment that red flowers in particularly could hold. For these I tried, emphasis on tried, to even begin to show the pinks and reds that have a sort of romance to them. I did like how the shapes of these flowers came out and the layers they have.
